Since the Outreach Programs inception, Telehealth has been identified as appropriate technology to support increased access to the program’s services.
Telehealth is a broad term encompassing the use of communication and information technology to provide patient care – this includes synchronous communication by telephone, video conferencing and delayed care using asynchronous communication with store and forward and remote patient monitoring.
Significant Australian Government and Queensland Government investment has been made into Telehealth infrastructure and workforce to support its uptake. However, the full potential and alignment of Telehealth with outreach investment is still to be realised.
